Food authenticity — Non-targeted testing methods — Part 2: Validation of binary decision methods

Scope

This document provides a detailed practical description of the basic method for validating a binary NTTM and guidance to personnel concerned with designing, performing or analysing the results of the tests for estimating sensitivity and specificity and other related terms to describe the performance of a NTTM.

The described approach is limited to a ‘single laboratory’ validation of a NTTM, multilaboratory method validation is out of the scope of this document. For a single laboratory validation, measurements and data processing can be performed in different entities.

As FprEN 18218-1:202Y ‘Food authenticity — Non-targeted testing methods — Part 1: General considerations and definitions’ already describes basic concepts of NTTM validation, only those elements not sufficiently covered are described in this document.

The development process of a NTTM, including the data quality of the underlying measurement method, is not in the scope of this document.
