CEN/TC 356 Industrial fans - safety requirements

European Norm

Scope

This European Standard is applicable to all types of industrial fans. It does not apply to fans intended for household or similar purposes. The standard lists the significant hazards associated with fans and specifies safety requirements applicable to the design, installation, operation, maintenance and dismantling of fans during their foreseeable lifetime and subsequent disposal.
This standard is not exclusive and where specific standards exist relating to special applications these must be followed.
NOTE 1 Low power fans intended for use on a single phase AC at a voltage not exceeding 250 V and a current not exceeding 16 A may alternatively be covered by the requirements given in IEC 60335-2-80.
NOTE 2 Household or similar fans are typically used on desks, ceilings, free standing or, partitions (e.g. window and wall fans) and ducts. They are assumed to have a lower mechanical risk than the risk from electrical sources. Fans used in commercial offices and similar locations which otherwise are in the limits given before for low power fans shall also be considered as household or similar fans.
NOTE 3 The requirements of this standard shall also apply to fans located in equipment where relevant.
