Scope

This document establishes standardized methods that quantify neutral, moderate, and awkward postures (TR 10687, ISO 11226, BS EN 1005-4). This document is applicable to seated workers who are subjected to whole-body vibration, where the condition and health of the spine depend on the influence of static and dynamic conditions on the configuration and stability of the spine (ISO 2631-5). It defines posture indices for the lower-back, thoracic spine, cervical spine, and head. It sums these indices and introduces an accumulative posture index. It integrates the resulting accumulative posture index with the daily 8hrs vibration dose specified in ISO 2631-1 and produces a modified daily 8hrs vibration dose and threshold time. This document comprises current opinion and provides guidance on the possible effects of posture and vibration on health.
