ISO/TC 61/SC 10 Cellular plastics

International Standard

Scope

This International Standard specifies burning characteristics of cellular plastics referred on Clause 5.4 as shown in below.
5.4 Burning characteristics of cellular plastics is recognized as the property to consider the flammability of these materials in their intended applications. Therefore, until such time as International Standards become available, individual national standards should be followed. Due to compositional and processing parameters, some PF materials can exhibit smouldering combustion (punking).

However, horizontal burning characteristics are defined in ISO 9772, Plastics — Determination of burning behavior of thin flexible vertical specimens in contact with a small-flame ignition source. Moreover, fire retardancy tests for cellular plastics are described in ISO 5660-1, Reaction-to-fire tests — Heat release, smoke production and mass loss rate —Part 1: Heat release rate (cone calorimeter method) and smoke production rate (dynamic measurement).
