Scope

This document provides a specification of BIM object types for exchange between software. This includes both generic and product-specific object types as well as the use of IFC and data dictionaries.

This document considers the requirements and best practices of the European construction sector, as well as the relevant international standards, such as ISO/IEC 81346, EN ISO 19650 and EN ISO 16739-1.

This document includes all stages in a built asset’s life cycle, including both buildings and infrastructure.
