The test method described in this standard is based on the use of the mechanism of migration (movement under an applied electrical field) to force the penetration of chlorides into the specimen, until these ions reach the bar position and induce active corrosion. The standard provides the threshold value of chloride concentration and the corrosion rate after depassivation, together with the non-steady-state chloride diffusion
coefficient (Dns) of the hardened concrete embedding the rebar. The test procedure does not take into account any interaction of concrete with the saline solution over time
