CEN and CENELEC have developed two CEN-CENELEC Workshop Agreements on Standards Essential Patents (SEPs), covering the two main existing models for licensing under the Internet of Things, 5G or the Industrial Internet (Industrial IoT).
The CWA 17431:2019, also known as CWA SEPs IoT, provides the Principles and guidance for licensing Standard Essential Patents in 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT), including the Industrial Internet. This guidance document is based on Fair, Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory licensing and includes aspects such as confidentiality, negotiations or fair compensation principles, amongst others.
