CEN/TC 293 Assistive products and accessibility
European Norm
This International Standard specifies a test method for determining the absorption before leakage (ABL) performance of incontinence products.
The method is applicable for single use urine-absorbing products intended for users with moderate incontinence and severe incontinence. The method has been designed for the evaluation of incontinence products for mainly care-dependent bedridden adults.
The method is not applicable for products intended for use by young children or babies. The method is not applicable for products intended for use by more active and mobile users. The method is not applicable for mobile users with light incontinence.
This International Standard provides a means to measure the capacity of the absorbent core in a simulated user position. It does not measure leakage security in-use or other user- and usage related qualities that ought to be considered when purchasing decisions are being made: ease-of use, fit, comfort, discretion, skin compatibility, noise, etc. Further discussion of these issues are found in ISO 15621 Urine-absorbing aids — General guidelines on evaluation, which may be consulted in conjunction with this International Standard.
