This international standard provides basic requirements and guidance on suitability of equipment and materials which might be used in cleanrooms and clean zones.
The scope of this international standard is limited to airborne and surface cleanliness for particles and chemicals. This includes consideration of outgassing and particle and chemical emission from equipment and materials.
Guidance is given on the mechanisms, methods and principles for determining emissions and cleanliness levels.
The following matters of general guidance are provided:
- assessment of adverse effects such as surface/material properties
- compatibility of surfaces with the cleaning agents and techniques
- surface attributes such as morphology
- cleanability configurations such as cracks and crevices
Note. This equipment and materials guidance is linked to the cleanliness classes given different parts of ISO 14644 (see ISO 14644-1, -8, -9 and -10).
In addition guidance is given on the performance and attributes of the equipment and materials insofar as it will affect the cleanliness of the
cleanrooms. Verification methods are addressed through informative annexes and cross reference to established standards.
The following are excluded:
- consideration of biocontamination;
- product and process requirements of equipment and materials;
- design details of equipment and materials;
- performance of materials, e.g. barrier properties of gloves, wear and slip resistance of flooring.
