Scope

This document specifies requirements and test methods for protective helmets intended to be worn when paragliding, hang gliding and flying ultralight or microlight aeroplanes. Helmets for airborne sports are indicated in this European Standard as follows:
- Category HPG: Helmets for paragliding and hang gliding;
- Category ML: Helmets for flying with microlight aeroplanes (also known as ultra-light aeroplanes)

Requirements and the corresponding test methods are given for the following:
- construction including field of vision, head mobility and eye protection;
- penetration resistance;
- shock absorbing properties;
- retention system properties, including chin strap and fastening devices;
- marking and information.

This document is not applicable for head protection used in other airborne sports with other kinds of risks.
