Scope

Part 4 of EN 726 specifies the application independent card related characteristics of card terminals able to process cards complying with part 3 of EN 726. All common characteristics which are necessary for a standardized card use in the terminals are defined. This part of the standard does not preclude letting terminals accept and process cards complying with other standards. The application-specific characteristics are not defined in this part of EN 726. They are defined and described in the relevant application requirements.
