Scope

This standard specifies rules for the designation of measuring instruments - The goal is to achieve - a uniform designation of the various types of measuring instruments, - an unequivocal understanding between manufacturers and users of measuring instruments, - an unambiguous identification of the characteristics of measuring instruments (e.g. in catalogues of measuring instruments, quotations, instrument descriptions and instructions for use, as well as in order systems, literature services, patent documentation and trade)
