Scope

The standard deals with requirements for the erection of high voltage switchgear and controlgear in buildings (indoor installations) and outdoor sites (outdoor installations). The standard specifies both the selection and mounting (combined action, interaction) of the electrical devices (equipment), e.g. switches, transformers, and gives the minimum clearances that have to be met when erecting the installations. The standard contains requirements to ensure that the installation withstands the electrical, mechanical and climatic stresses likely to occur. The standard specifies protective measures which ensure safe operation (personnel protection) and proper functioning of the power installation. It is intended to integrate the standard of earthing systems.
