Scope

This document describes the test procedures and calculation methods for the performance and durability of lithium-ion and sodium-ion industrial batteries, battery packs, and battery modules. This document considers the most appropriate metric based on the application for electrical performance between different models/products on the market. It specifies procedures for testing performance and calculation methods for determining performance and durability values for:
• Rated capacity (in Ah) and capacity fade (in %);
• Power (in W) and power fade (in %);
• Internal resistance (in Ω) and internal resistance increase (in %);
• Energy round-trip efficiency and its fade (in %);
• Expected lifetime (number of full cycles and years).
The tests in this document apply to industrial batteries, battery packs, and battery modules intended for the following applications:
• Stationary storage systems
• Communication infrastructure
• Agricultural activities
• Industrial activities
NOTE 1 Examples of applications for which batteries fall within the scope of this standard: Stationary applications: Telecommunications, batteries for stationary storage systems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), emergency power supplies, and similar applications (e.g., portable storage systems that are only operated in stationary mode). Mobility applications: Industrial trucks (including driverless vehicles), golf carts, railways, and ships, excluding road vehicles.
These procedures can be used for type testing a model/product at the beginning of its service life (status “original”) and for testing individual batteries after a change of status (status "reused" and “repurposed”). This standard is suitable for determining the performance parameters of reused and repurposed batteries, while the durability parameters of the original battery must be known and must be adopted when the status changes. This document does not apply to “remanufactured” batteries.
These tests for the above parameters are performed at the component level outside the battery-surrounding system or application, e.g., the stationary battery energy storage system.
If standards exist that specify test conditions and requirements for batteries, battery packs, and battery modules for specific applications that conflicts with this document, those standards take precedence (e.g., industrial trucks).
