Scope

This European Standard, part of EN 50289 series, specifies the criteria for circuit integrity and transmission capability under fire of control and communication cables – wires, symmetric cables, and coaxial cables with metallic conductors – for use in e.g., telecommunication, data transmission, radio frequency, video communication and signalling and control equipment.
The test method for fire is described in EN 50200 and/or EN 50577.
For the assessment of the circuit integrity (both short circuit protection and maintaining data transmission capability) two different samples and two different tests shall be performed. The cable must pass the test as per EN 50200 or EN 50577 and only then can be evaluated to its data transmission capability under fire by the definitions and instructions stated on this document.
