Scope

This document specifies concepts and principles for information model practices in the built environment. It establishes a common framework for planning, creating, using, exchanging, reviewing and maintaining information models as part of BIM-enabled information management.
The document covers terminology, information model purposes and contexts, common practice principles, relationship to information requirements, interfaces to model review and quality assurance, and considerations for interoperability and lifecycle use.
It applies to buildings and infrastructure assets across lifecycle stages and to organizations that specify, produce, manage or use information models.
The document is intended to be used together with relevant CEN and ISO BIM standards. Software-specific requirements, exchange schemas, contractual clauses and detailed project procedures are outside the core scope of this part.
