This document specifies the characteristics and test methods for flue dampers that are used as an accessory, carrying flue gas, in order to limit the flow in a chimney or to prevent back flow of soot during cleaning of the chimney or to prevent the backflow of the flue gas e.g. in case of multi-served chimneys.
This document is applicable to the following types of flue dampers:
— type 1: totally closeable manually driven for dry and negative pressure application;
— type 2: totally closeable mechanically driven for dry and wet and negative or positive pressure application;
— type 3: partially closeable adjustable manually driven for dry and negative pressure application;
— type 4: partially closeable adjustable mechanically driven for dry and wet and negative and positive pressure application;
— type 5: partially closeable fixed manually driven for dry and wet and negative and positive pressure application.
This document is applicable only to flue dampers incorporated in a housing and located inside a building.
This document excludes flue dampers
with sealings made of elastomeric materials for temperature classes up to T 200 and corrosion class 1 or 2 which are not in accordance with of EN 14241 1,
with sealing materials for dry applications which do not have a fire reaction class A1 in accordance with EN 13501 1,
with motor drive, casing and flue damper plate which are not interlocked in such a way that they can only be separated by using tools,
which are mechanically driven (type 2 and 4) if the motor is not in accordance with EN 60730 2 14 or the cover for electrical components of the flue damper does not fulfil minimum protection class IP40 according to EN 60529,
with limit switches which are not in accordance with EN 61058 1 or EN 50156 1 for biomass boilers ≥ 1 000 kW and industrial applications,
where it is not possible to identify the position of the flue damper flap,
which are totally closeable, manually driven (type 1) which do not have a facility to adjust the position of the flue damper flap,
which are totally closeable, mechanically driven (type 2) where not only the positions “fully opened” and “fully closed” is possible,
which are partially closeable (type 3 to 5) where it is not possible to adjust the position of the flue damper flap or where it is not ensured that the flue damper flap does not change position by itself.
Flue dampers which are integral parts of system chimney products or other chimney components, e.g. flue liners, connecting flue pipes, are also excluded in this document.
This document also specifies the provisions for marking, ’ instruction, product information, Assessment and Verification of Constancy of Performance (AVCP).
This document does not specify issues for electrical parts.
