Scope

This European Standard specifies the requirements for suspended ceilings covering the whole underside of the
floor or roof above or parts thereof.
It includes test methods, methods of evaluation and classification of performance as well as provisions for the
evaluation of conformity and for the marking of the products to the requirements of this European standard.
Internal finishes in walls and ceilings are also covered by this standard in so far that the intended use is not
covered by any other existing European Standard or European Technical Specification. Membrane components
and baffles may be manufactured in various shapes and forms.
This set of European Standards does not cover the following uses:
− elements and substructure components for suspending elements that are suspended within a space that
are intended for informative and/or decorative purposes (including signage) and not performing a technical
function of a suspended ceiling or lining as defined in this standard.
− ceilings in mobile buildings and other forms of transportation;
− characteristics needed for special applications, for which additional characteristics other than covered by
this European Standard would need to be complied with;
− suspended ceilings intended for uses in ceilings subject to water penetration requirements
− ceilings used externally
− ceilings that can be walked on
− ceilings made from fire protective boards covered by ETAG 018 Part 4: Fire protective Board, Slab and Mat
products and Kits.;
- technical components (e.g. light fittings, ventilation and inspection hatches) not part of the product or kit
- in-situ formed ceilings, covered by other European technical specifications, for which it is the installer, not
the component manufacturer, who takes responsibility for ensuring that the complete installed system meets
any regulatory requirements to which it is subject;
NOTE This standard serves as a supporting standard for EN 13964-1 and as a stand-alone standard, permitting
manufacturers to demonstrate compliance with the requirements to affix CE marking and to place the products onto the
market in accordance with Regulation (EU) 305/2011 and to demonstrate compliance with the state-of-the-art requirements
for membranes and baffles intended to be components in suspended ceilings or used as free hanging units.
NOTE This standard does not cover design instructions for seismic zones.
