Scope

This CWA provides guidelines and methodologies for solvent-free coating technologies applied to fiber-based substrates, including paper, paperboard, airlaid, and tissue materials. It focuses on bio-based thermoplastic powder formulations, such as PBS and PHA, as well as the use of natural additives including lignin and bio-based waxes. The document addresses the application of these coatings to achieve functional surface properties in packaging, such as barrier performance, water repellency, and mechanical resistance, while ensuring compatibility with industrial processing and converting operations. In addition, this CWA defines key process parameters, performance requirements, and sustainability considerations, supporting the development and validation of environmentally friendly coating solutions for packaging applications.
