This CWA defines a methodology for assessing the stability, durability, and potential toxicity of coatings, including paints, varnishes, and wood preservatives, when subjected to accelerated ageing conditions. The methodology has been successfully applied to both novel PFAS-free coatings and conventional formulations, enabling the evaluation of their performance, resilience, and potential environmental and human health impacts during use. This document aims to support manufacturers, testing laboratories, and regulatory bodies in the safe design, development, and validation of coatings, ensuring compliance with both performance requirements and environmental and health safety criteria.
