Execution of preloaded bolted connections made of special fasteners prCEN/TS XXX

Scope

The CEN/TS will specify requirements for the execution of carbon steel and austenitic and
duplex stainless steel preloaded bolted connections, for which no rules regarding tightening to a
specific preload level exist in EN 1090-2.

The specifications given in this document will be written for bolting components with ISO general
purpose metric screw threads. For special thread dimensions, the specification may be modified
accordingly.

Herewith, the CEN/TS focuses on the execution of preloaded bolting assemblies, which are
classified as special fasteners according to EN 1090-2.

The proposed CEN/TS will include:
• Requirements for mechanical properties of bolting components,
• Fitness for purpose testing,
- General requirements regarding the test procedure,
- Evaluation of the test results,
- Requirements for suitability,
• Rules for the determination of tightening parameters,
• Rules for the definition of tightening procedures,
• Inspection requirements.
