Road transport and traffic telematics - Automatic vehicle and equipment identification - Electronic Registration Identification (ERI) for vehicles

Scope

Standardization in the field of Electronic Registration Identification (ERI) that is:
· assigned to a vehicle (e.g. for recognition by national administrations)
· suitable to be used for :
o electronic identification of vehicles by administrations, police etc.
o vehicle manufacturing, in-life-maintenance and end-of-life identification
(vehicle life cycle management)
o safety related purposes
o crime reduction
o commercial services
· adhering to privacy and data protection regulations.
The standard will encompass among others:
· the identifiers and possible related information
· the interface between a device conveying an ERI and road side equipment
· provisions for in-vehicle interface
· security issues and system protection profile
· environmental and mechanical issues
· life cycle management and operational issues
