This proposed International Standard specifies requirements, framework elements, and implementation guidance for the design, implementation, operation, and continual improvement of Early Warning Systems (EWS) for business organizations of all sizes and sectors. The document is intended to support organizations in identifying, monitoring, communicating, and responding to emerging threats, disruptions, and weak signals that may affect operational resilience, continuity, and decision-making.
It provides application-specific guidance on the use of artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled techniques, such as machine learning, anomaly detection, predictive analytics, and natural language processing, within business early warning systems. This proposed document focuses on the business application of AI within EWS and does not establish requirements for an artificial intelligence management system.
Requirements relating to the governance, lifecycle, development, validation, monitoring, and risk management of AI systems used within EWS should be implemented in alignment with applicable ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 standards, including ISO/IEC 22989, ISO/IEC 23053, ISO/IEC 23894, ISO/IEC 42001, and ISO/IEC 5338. This document is not intended to replace those standards.
