Scope

This document provides recommendations for menus within interactive systems to enable efficient navigation. The recommendations apply to menus implemented in various forms supporting various modalities (visual, auditory, tactile/haptic).
Appropriate user-interface design depends upon the context of use, i.e. the users, their tasks, and task related goals, the environment, and the available technology. The application of the recommendations in this document relies on understanding of the context of use and the user requirements derived from the context of use.
The information in this document is intended for use by:
• the user-interface designer during the design phase;
• evaluators;
• the purchaser during the product procurement process;
• designers of design systems automating repetitive design tasks for user- interface designers.
