Additive manufacturing - General Principles - Overview of computation modelling and simulation

Scope

This document specifies terms and definitions for describing computational models that simulate additive manufacturing processes or simulate the performance of materials with characteristics typical of additive manufacuring processes.
It provides guidelines on:

computational modelling where predictions can be used to support decisions in the AM processing chain
simulation caibration, validation and input data

This document is applicable to AM process categories and modelling approaches irrespective of the mathematical method. This document does not provide guidance on specific processes or modelling methods.
This document is particularly intend for AM users to provide guidance onapplying simulations, however also applies to developers of computational modelling software.
This document does not provide guidance on geometric or CAD design modelling activities which are covered by the ISO/ASTM 52910 and ISO/ASTM 52911 series.
