Scope

This standard applies to electric fans and their associated regulators for use inside ships on single-phase a.c. and d.c. circuits not exceeding 250 V intended for air circulation in accommodation and service spaces in ships. Wherever applicable, the term "fan" used in this standard includes the associated regulator, if any. This standard does not cover safety requirements of fans for use: a) in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas); b) in air-heating equipment and air conditioners; c) in machinery spaces for ventilation, cooling etc. 1.2 Addition: This standard is concerned with safety requirements of fans for use in ships and does not cover performance requirements and corresponding tests which are covered in IEC Publication 307: Electric fans and regulators for use in ships.
