Sustainability criteria for the production of biofuels and bioliquids for energy applications - Principles, criteria, indicators and verifiers - Part 5: Guidance towards definition of residue and waste via a positive list

Scope

This document presents information on biomass for energy application that is defined as waste or as residue in line with the requirements of EN 16214-1. Both feedstock and processes are concerned.
The document contains guidance and an overview on what the EC stated or documented on biomass to be considered as waste or as residue in a so-called positive list. The list is derived from:
a) Binding legislation, including the Directive 2009/28/EC [1];
b) Official EC and national guidance documents, including the comments on the practical implementation of the EU biofuels and bioliquids sustainability scheme and on counting rules for biofuels [5].
