Scope

General communication standards for automotion systems have come a long way in the last years, bringing the concept of open system interconnection closer to general acceptance and wide spread use. EN 50170 is a standard specifying a set of solutions named General Purpose Field Communication System. The scope covers complex devices, intelligent field devices as well as simple I/Os. It is not limited to the process industry but it intends to meet the needs of most industrial domains.
