This European Standard specifies requirements and test methods for oil lamps used in households, in restaurants, in recreational facilities and in similar areas for decorative purposes and to create an atmospheric illumination. The standard does not apply to oil lamps for industrial purposes (e.g. securing of roadbuilding sites). The purpose of the standard is to minimise the risk of accidental poisoning of small children up to 3 years of age by limiting the accessibility to the lamp oil.
