Scope

This CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) specifies the nomenclature that shall be used by those involved in the buying and selling of diamonds (2.3), treated diamonds (2.22), laboratory created/laboratory grown/synthetic diamonds (2.11) and simulants (2.19)
Note 1: This CWA is non judgmental and the definitions and clauses contained herein are formatted and worded only to ensure that each product bought or sold is done so with clarity and honesty. The stability of the market place depends upon consumers being confident in the product they are purchasing. The use of the proper nomenclature and the declaration of all known facts ensure a fully informed purchase or sale.
Note 2: Clause 2 of this CWA gives terms and definitions. These terms and definitions are cross referenced throughout the CWA. It is important that the reader refers to the relevant Terms and Definitions when consulting the CWA.
Note 3: In the term “laboratory created/laboratory grown/synthetic diamond”, the word “laboratory” refers to the facility that produces the laboratory created/laboratory grown/synthetic diamonds. This is not to be confused with a gemmological laboratory (see 2.6) that is dedicated to the analysis, authentication and classification (grading) of gems.
