X.500 Profile ADY12 - DUA support of Distributed Operations

Scope

ISO/IEC ISP 15125-2 only profiles DUA Directory Access in a distributed environment. In addressing distributed Directory environments, this part of the ISP does not duplicate part 1, ISO/IEC ISP 15125-1 (ADY 11), and as such must be combined with ISO/IEC ISP 15125-1.
1.1 General This International Standardized Profile (ISP) specifies the behaviour of DUAs when they use DAP to access multiple DSAs in the course of making a single original inquiry without human intervention in the formulation of protocol. Multiple inquiries result from receiving continuation references embedded in referrals, list results or search results. 1.2 Position within the taxonomy This document, part 2 of ISO/IEC ISP 15125, is one part of a multi part ISP identified in ISO/IEC TR 10000-2 as "ADY12, DUA Support of Distributed Operations." This part of ISO/IEC 15125 should be combined with Part 1- ADY11: "DUA Support of Directory Access Protocol", of the same ISP It may be combined with other parts of ISO/IEC ISP 15125, or with ISO/IEC ISP 15126 specifying the normal use of the directory, and with T-Profiles specifying the OSI connection-mode transport service 1.3 Scenario This ISP profiles the behavior of DUAs when Referrals or Search Continuation References are used by the Directory. A DUA creates an association to a DSA of its choice, and requests an operation. The DSA may return a referral instead of a result, or the result may contain continuation references. The latter occur in the case of List or Search operations in which the DSA is unwilling or unable to complete the search, but is able to advise which other DSAs may be able to assist.
