CEN/CENELEC

CEN/CLC/JTC 18 Non automatic weighing instruments (NAWI)

European Norm

Scope

This standard provides definitions of quantities of metrological specifications of electronic balances and scales (from now on called “weighing instruments”) and provides measurement and calculation procedures to obtain values for these quantities.

The standard gives user guidance to define and apply tolerance limits used in the qualification and life cycle management of weighing instruments to ensure continuous fitness for their intended use. It provides guidance on instrument selection and appropriate risk-based qualification activities, such as regular calibration, routine tests, adjustment, and other, as well as on the proper use of the instruments.

The standard intends to provide guidance for weighing applications which are either not covered by legal metrology or where fit-for-use considerations in addition to legal metrology are relevant. For legal metrology requirements with regards to non-automatic weighing instruments, users should refer to EN 45501.
