Noise environment in dwellings – Perception survey

Scope

The acoustic performance of dwellings is commonly assessed using measurable physical indicators that
vary across Europe in definition and target values. Occupants may nevertheless report noise-related
annoyance despite compliance with applicable requirements, highlighting the need for a harmonised
approach to characterise annoyance and support comparability of data at European level.
This Technical Specification defines a reference methodology and questionnaire framework for socio
acoustic surveys in dwellings. It identifies key parameters influencing reported annoyance and specifies
precautions for question formulation and survey administration to minimise bias and ensure robust,
reproducible data collection.
