Methods of correcting wind-induced bias in atmospheric precipitation measurements

Scope

This document addresses the quantification and correction of wind-induced bias in liquid and solid precipitation measurements obtained using catching and non-catching atmospheric precipitation gauges. It describes hardware and software solutions to minimize wind-induced bias, together with methods for correcting raw data and the residual bias either in real time or using a post-processing algorithm. The document also addresses the methods to determine the magnitude of the correction for a specific instrument and installation site.
