Slaughter equipment – Cartridge-operated captive bolt stunning device – Safety and cleanability requirements

Scope

This document covers the safety requirements for pyrotechnic propellant charge devices which operate with an intermediate element (captive pin).
This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to cartridge
operated fixing and hard marking tools, when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse
which are reasonably foreseeable.
Although the safe use of cartridge operated tools depends to an important extent on the use of appropriate
cartridges and fasteners, this standard is not formulating requirements for the cartridges and fasteners to be used with the tools.
In addition, requirements relating to animal welfare at the time of killing are given.
This document is not applicable to filling machines and interchangeable equipment which were
manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN.
