Scope

This document specifies the safety requirements for the design of
a) mixing plants for concrete and mortar;
b) fresh concrete waste-reprocessing plants;
c) mixers for concrete and mortar not used in a mixing plant (for example stand-alone mixers);
NOTE For mixers which are integrated into other machinery or assembled with other equipment, this document can be used as a guidance document.
d) dry batching plants.
The machinery may be stationary or it may be capable of being transported to an alternative position regularly.
This document is applicable to machinery and plants which are manufactured after the date of publication of this document.
It is not applicable to carrier vehicles, e.g. trucks, tractors, construction machinery and mobile industrial handling equipment or other self-propelled vehicles.
NOTE These requirements are covered in directives related to the construction of vehicles.
This document does not include requirements which are covered in directives related to the construction of vehicles or national road regulations.
The use in public road traffic is governed by the national regulations.
It does not include requirements relevant to
— truck mixers (EN 12609:2021);
— self-propelled machines;
— conveying, spraying and placing machines for concrete and mortar (EN 12001:2012);
— mobile freefall-mixers;
— mixing plants covered by EN 536:2015.
This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and hazardous events relevant to machinery and plant for the preparation of concrete and mortar, when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see Clause 4). This document specifies the appropriate technical measures to eliminate or reduce risks arising from the significant hazards during transportation, assembly, dismantling, disabling, scrapping, operation and maintenance.
This standard does not deal with:
— explosive atmospheres;
— noise during maintenance.
