Scope

This document specifies a calculation method for assessing and mitigating the risk of breakage of glazing panes caused by in-plane thermally induced stress.
NOTE 1 In-plane thermally induced stress results from temperature differentials within the plane of the glass, typically caused by factors such as thermal radiation. This phenomenon generally leads to lower temperatures at the edges and higher temperatures in the central areas of the pane.
NOTE 2 The evaluation of resistance to in-plane thermally induced stress according to this document represents only one aspect of the overall glazing design process. It does not replace the requirements of EN 16612 or of the FprEN 19100 series.
This document does not cover:
 the risk of glass breakage due to fire;
 the resistance to out-of-plane thermally induced loads (e.g. cavity pressure);
 the safety and security considerations in case of glass breakage.
This document does not apply to channel-shaped glass, glass blocks, or pavers.
