Scope

This European Standard specifies the characteristics for lighting columns made from any material as structural supports for luminaires.
It applies to the column structure, and where provided the root or flange and the bracket, excluding the luminaire and the foundation anchors of flanged columns.
It is limited to columns of nominal height (including any bracket) not exceeding 20 m.
This European Standard does not cover special structural designs to permit attachments such as signs, seasonal decorations, flower baskets, CCTV cameras, smart equipment, Internet of Things sensors, and solar panels and small wind turbines but gives informative guidance on special structural design to permit the attachment of luminaires and seasonal catenary.
Specific rules for assessing concrete, steel, aluminium, fibre reinforced polymer composite or glued timber lighting columns are included in this standard.. Specific rules for assessing other materials (for example plastic and cast iron) are not specifically covered in this standard but are included in the scope.
This European Standard includes characteristics for horizontal loads due to wind, performance under vehicle impact and their durability .
