Technical Specification

Scope

EN 1994 currently covers composite (steel-concrete) beams, slabs and columns, adopting carbon steel in grades up to S460 and concrete up to C50/60. Rules are given for analysis, verification, shear transfer, load introduction and detailing.
Some of these rules are applicable to SC construction; however, many aspects of SC structural design are not covered.
Examples include:
1. General limits relating to plate thickness, reinforcement ratios and grades of steel and concrete.
2. Hybrid SC construction comprising carbon steel plate on one side and stainless steel on the other to suite certain environmental or operational conditions.
3. Treatment of ‘locked-in’ stresses caused by concreting of SC walls.
4. Bending resistance in one or two directions
5. Biaxial loading of shear studs in two-way spanning SC panels.
6. Out of plane shear resistance.
7. In-plane shear resistance.
8. Combinations of out-of-plane shear, bending and in-plane axial loading.
9. Connections between SC panels (wall to wall, wall to floor
10. Fire resistance of SC panels.

The scope of the proposed TS will complement that of EN1994 to cover these aspects of SC construction.
