European Norm

Scope

This European standard specifies product characteristics for Multi-axis hinges to be used for:
 fire and smoke compartmentation doors fitted with door closing devices, to enable such doors to close reliably and thus achieve self-closing in the event of fire;
 locked doors on escape routes, to enable the door leaves to move freely once released.
This European standard also includes tests for static loads and allowable wear during durability cycling for hinges mounted on the edge of the door leaf or window sash and opening in one direction only.
This European Standard covers multi-part hinge, consisting of at least one component being a mounting part for the frame and one component being a mounting part on the door (or window) leaf connecting a door and a frame in such a way as to allow the door or window to swing free, the instantaneous axis of rotation of the hinge changing its position in space and maintaining a direction perpendicular to a horizontal plane during the full operational cycle between the closed and open position of the door .
Hinges are suitable for all door and window materials and may be of concealed, surface mounted or other structure to allow the leaf to open to all angles within a specified angular range.
This European standard does not apply to hinges incorporating spring-assisted door-closing mechanisms, single axis hinges and single or double action pivots.
This Standard does not apply to variable geometry hinges which are covered in EN 13126-8 and EN 13126
