Scope

This standard specifies the application of acoustic emission testing (AT) on metallic pressurised structures during in-service (periodic) inspection and requalification. The objective is to integrate AT with the standard set of testing (internal/external visual testing, thickness measurements, hydrostatic/pneumatic tests, etc.) in order to allow its application either alone or in combination with other methods in the course of inspection and/or requalification procedures. It demonstrates the capability of AT to ensure at least the same level of safety of the pressurised structure compared to the conventional inspection and requalification procedures.
