This Draft Standard describes a standard apparatus and a test method for measuring single irregularities attributable to quality defects in sports playing surfaces. The evenness of the playing surface is measured with the aid of a straightedge pulled over the surface longitudinally and transversely between the play lines. Deviations beneath the straightedge are measured using a calibrated graduated wedge also known as a slip gauge. Single irregularities are by nature random, and consequently no routine sampling rates or precision data are specified.
