Scope

The proposed standard will cover the requirements for the safe and secure exhibition of moveable cultural heritage. It will
include planning, moving objects within a building and installing them within an exhibition space. Careful handling and
movement will be addressed. There will also be guidance on care and maintenance of the objects while on display including
environmental monitoring and control and security. It will relate to the display of objects owned by the museum collection as
well as loans from outside the organisation for temporary exhibition. It will not address packing for transport and transport
outside the museum. It will be applicable to any display space, either a museum or non-museum, to any type of moveable
cultural heritage and any size or type of display. It will give recommendations for the suitability for the exhibition space and
guidelines on how to ensure appropriate conditions for display. Outside displays will also be addressed. The standard will
take into account the latest thinking on indoor climate control, energy efficiency and sustainability.
