Hardness depth of heat-treated parts — Determination of the effective depth of hardening after nitriding cen:proj:60569

Scope

This European Standard specifies the method for the determination of the nitrided compound layer thickness (CLT) based on metallographic evaluation and the effective depth of hardening after nitriding (nitriding depth, NHD) based on hardness measurement. Further the limiting hardness for nitriding depth will be defined, see Clause 5. The test method is applicable to nitrided parts, regardless of the condition of the nitrided layer. It is not applicable to very shallow hardness distribution curves, i.e. to hardness distribution curves with difference of surface and core hardness less than 150 HV 0,5.
