Technical Specification

Scope

This Technical Specification defines the description syntax and functional processes of a generic means of creating a concatenated Object Identifier plus Unique Item Identifier (OID+UII) as used in AIDC technology and applications. It recognizes domain boundaries at the UII level as recorded on the ISO/IEC 15961-2 FID Data Constructs Register. In parallel, it enables domain-specific services to be developed to support the Internet of Things, using resolving methods that are beyond the scope of this Technical Specification.
The OID resolving process normally requires a complete hierarchical structure of arcs from the root to the most specific lowest level arc. Some of the Unique Item Identifiers supported by the Data Constructs Register are based on legacy structures which might not automatically produce the required hierarchy (typically generations of parent-to-child relationships for a properly structured OID). This Technical Specification shows how the AIDC OID can be created from the specific structures relevant to domains on the ISO/IEC 15962 Data Constructs Register. This should enable legacy data constructs to be used to enable application domains to adopt services of the Internet of Things without the need to re-code all items.
