CEN

CEN/TC 19 Gaseous and liquid fuels, lubricants and related products of petroleum, synthetic and biological origin.

European Norm

Scope

This standard specifies a gas chromatographic method using a direct injection on column technique for ethanol, in which higher alcohols (propan-1-ol, butan-1-ol, butan-2-ol, 2-methylpropan-1-ol (isobutanol), 2 methylbutan 1 ol, and 3 methylbutan 1 ol), methanol and other volatile impurities, especially ethyl-ethanoate (ethyl acetate), ethanal (acetic aldehyde) and 1,1 diethoxyethane (acetal) in the range from 0,5 up to 3 % (m/m) are determined. This standard is an alternative to EN 15721. The technique is better equipped for future requirements concerning blend ethanol (EN 15376), especially when used for ethanol (E85) automotive fuel.
