Determination of mean fibre diameter & fibre distribution of High Temperature Insulation Wools (HTIWs) by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)

Scope

A method already exists to measure the fibre diameter distribution of HTIWs. This was developed between ECFIA & HSE in the 1990’s but was never officially published. Round robins were carried out between 5 labs to show that the method worked. The intention is to make this method into a standard & check that the method is robust & useable. The method should be applicable for blanket, paper, felt & bulk only.
