CEN/TC 305 Potentially explosive atmospheres - Explosion prevention and protection
European Norm
The possibility of a fire in dust layers causing an explosion or a fire as a consequence of an explosion is something that needs to be looked into as part of safety assessment applying explosion protection measures. The so-called burning class of a dust gives a
very good indication of dust layer combustion behaviour. The burning class can be determined by a very simple screening test.
The standard is specifying the methodology for the determination and classification of dust layer combustion behaviour.
The standard specifies whether and to which extent a fire started in a dust layer using a external ignition source can propagate. On the basis of the result of the test the combustion behaviour is classified.
