Scope

This standard specifies requirements for mechanical explosion barriers (active and passive) which are used as protection devices to prevent flame transmission when flammable gas/air, vapour/air or dust/air mixtures are present. This standard specifies test methods to verify operation requirements and to determine safe limits of use. In applications where these barriers are to be used in an explosive atmosphere, they must comply with annex II of the Directive 94/9/EC.
