Scope

This standard describes the reference methods for the determination of free swell, swelling pressure, and the magnitude of one-dimensional swell or collapse of compacted or intact a material when subjected, in the presence of water, to vertical stresses.
It is used to assess the behaviour of structures that may be affected by the presence of swelling or collapsing materials.
